Almost conveniently after I upload the original M8 Test Extra from August, ConnDOT made another test run to New London to measure platform and third rail clearances at New London’s curved low/high level platforms as well as cab signal testing. The M8 set, being the same test set from the summer, arrived on Track One to measure the gap distance between the high level platform and the door as well as making sure the third rail shoes, used for territory where overhead wires aren’t present, clear the platform so they won’t need to be removed if placed in service. It then departed the station westbound to switch over onto Track 2 to measure the gap distance between the high level and the door, which was proven to be rather wide. Once measurements were taken, it then made its way back to New Haven just after 1:00 AM. Yes the symbol was ‘Amtrak Extra’ since the train had to be operated by a qualified Amtrak crew to run on the NHB Line.
