The sun was low on the horizon and all was at rest, except one girl on her way home. Autumn leaves rustled in the cool breeze, but amidst her, there was a stillness throughout the air. The roads and homes were perfectly silent, and the shadows were long against the walls, one in particular trailing her every move. She thought herself to be alone, but nevertheless picked up her pace and ducked through a nearby alley.
Her eyes began to wander as she made her way through, steps lessening in confidence as the shadow danced across the walls, shifting and morphing continuously. She knew it was her own, but the more she dwelt upon it, the less she truly believed. Stumbling, she shifted her focus to the alley's end, the shadow trailing her effortlessly. She drew near to the end quickly, her breathing intensifying with every wayward glance to the phantom behind. There was nothing, but there was her, and the darkness that followed.
From the alley, she rounded the corner and fled, and peace had all but left the air. She ran farther and farther, but the shadow remained, casting itself tall and proud with the setting sun. In overwhelming darkness, she sank, stricken with weakness and fear gripping her soul. She looked out to the dead horizon and wept, cries ringing out with no response, apart from the shadow, mocking. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply between cries of torment, but found the strength to rise. She wiped her face and set forth with determination, but the darkness did not leave her.
Ever closer, the thought of home beckoned to her, outstretched arms of grace to shield from this nightmare, but just as she ran, so did the penumbra, with great rage and ferocity. She pressed on, but the sun's presence pulled steadily from the land, leaving void in its place. The shadows blended and melded, laughing and dancing in obscurity around her, and she felt her pace begin to fall. Gasping for breath, she made her final steps toward her house, and fell against the door frame. The darkness moved wildly and freely around her, but feeble limbs pushed the door open, and she collapsed inside, the door closing behind her with a subtle creak.
There was no light within, and the shadows knew. She stared around the room, trembling, but found her bearings and turned on lanterns, one by one, casting the room in a calm, warm glow. She sat in the middle of the room with a blank expression for a few minutes, very carefully looking around her until she was at rest. She looked over to her shadow, ever present, cast in multiplicity. Complex and interwoven, they trailed her in nonchalance, but had no character apart from the one that cast them. She sighed. It would remain forever, but there was nothing to be gained from fearing it. With one final look back at the door, she yawned, laid down, and fell asleep, the lights dimming peacefully.

I said most of everything in the Mare Fair description, but things haven't been so great, and it seems that's the recurring trend with everyone. There've been a fair few things on my mind, and I believe most of them came through in this project. Ended up going some ways I didn't think it'd go, but I felt comfortable with opting to continue since if it's something that connects with me, it's there for a reason. I don't know how to feel about it as a whole, but I'm relatively content. The idea's been something I've wanted to do for a while, just could never find a good angle beyond the name, or the drive to keep taking a crack at it. I've been running on fumes for a while, and I know I need rest, but I'm not going to get any. Too much has a death grip on me, and I need to address it before I start breaking more.
That being said, I'm down to do commission work again. Stuff like this, or my recent work, is what I'm best with, but I can also go other directions. $150 per minute of music is the rate I'm working with, and it can be negotiated depending on the project. Add me as "radiarc." on Discord or leave a comment and we can talk about it.
And, as usual:
onlymares.horse/Radiarc.zip
Almost everything I've ever made, for free. If you want to donate, it would be of massive help at the moment as I'm currently in-between jobs, but anything in that .zip can be used for anything, as long as I'm credited somewhere for it.
Thanks for sticking around to listen. I know I don't have much good news to share, but I do enjoy uploading a lot, and I hope some aspect of this song resonates with you. I never know how good it really sounds, but I'm thankful you're there, and I hope you're well.
