2 in Twelve – Episode 1: The foundation

Designing and building a home is a challenge at the best of times, let alone two homes in twelve weeks. This hasn’t stopped interior stylist Catherine Heraghty from attempting to do it, with the help of Future Flip builder, Neil Hipwell.

If you love design, renovation, or building, then our new series, 2 in Twelve is for you. 2 in Twelve follows Catherine and Neil as they attempt the seemingly impossible feat of constructing two homes in 12 weeks.

In this first episode of 2 in Twelve, Catherine introduces us to the original house on the block, which was built over 70 years ago.

“We desperately needed to update our entire home”, Catherine says, and in doing so has decided to build a duplex, which will feature two brand new houses, each with three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

One side will be Catherine’s investment property, while the other will be her ‘forever home’. Catherine takes us through her design goals for each house, with a coastal vibe for the investment property, and a contemporary Australian style.

Catherine explains that she decided to build two new homes on the property because the family couldn’t afford to purchase another property in the area. Plus, they would profit off of the investment property as well.

Neil shows us through the first four weeks of the build, from the first week demolishing of the original house, to week 4, where Neil shows us the materials they use to construct the walls.

Catherine says of the new home, “it will be lovely to have the space we need and to not live on top of each other.”
