Rolling back the years, as we film a few trains at North Shields, an old faithful spot on the channel.
The purpose of this visit however was to see Metrocar 4001, the very first prototype Metrocar built in the late 70s, make its final trip on Metro tracks, as it headed from Gosforth Depot to Howdon Depot. The next day it was then taken by lorry from Howdon Depot to the North Tyneside Steam Railway, where it has entered preservation. There will be a video of it leaving Howdon to follow this one.
Pure luck meant we timed this well with their being no 555s in the area, meaning the opportunity for a 'Trains at' consisting fully of the old fleet, for possibly the final time, with the rapid acceleration of the 555s into passenger service.
