Nothing too exciting just a relaxing afternoon with the Hooded Mergansers on the Pond. Here on Seabrook Island, SC we always anxiously await the return of the "Hoodies" in late November with mixed emotions. We are excited to be able watch their hilarious courtship antics but it usually also signifies the beginning of winter.
Our main bubbler pond on Jenkins Point currently has about 20 - 30 mergansers each day. It's a hilarious micro caricature of night club meat market culture. Males preening themselves, flexing and showing off. Females checking out the males, then quickly turning away without making eye contact, etc.
Filmed in SLOG-3 4k 10.2.2 on a Sony A1 / GM100-400 on December 30, 2024.
