Rahinnane Castle is a picturesque ruined castle in Ventry, Kerry. It is built in an ancient rath giving it a very distinctive appearance. Although it may not be well known it is historically important as it was the seat of the minor Geraldine family known as the Knights of Kerry and as such it was attacked by English forces in the Nine Years War. It was badly damaged by Cromwellian forces in the seventeenth century - even though the Knight of Kerry had not supported the Catholic Confederacy
