Mercedes AMG CLA 45 S: Performance Beast or Expensive Mistake?

The Mercedes AMG CLA 45 S is built to impress on paper. A 415-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, all-wheel drive, and the promise of serious performance in a compact, premium package. Finished in Polar White, this one immediately feels purposeful — exactly what you’d expect from the top of AMG’s compact range.

But outright speed is only part of the story. What matters more is how it feels the rest of the time — when you’re not flat out, when you’re just driving it normally, and when expectations are high because of the price tag. I get behind the wheel to see whether the CLA 45 S really delivers that sense of occasion every time you drive it, or if it only comes alive when you’re pushing hard.
