Ifugao province has 5 rice terraces clusters included on the UNESCO World Heritage sites - Kiangan, Hungduan, Batad, Bangaan and Mayoyao. Of the 5, those in Mayoyao are considered as the most extensive and most intact. The central Mayoyao terrace cluster is characterized by terraces interspersed with traditional farmers’ bale (houses) and alang (granaries).
How to you get to Mayoyao?
You travel by bus from Manila for 9 hours via Ohayami Trans or Coda Lines to Lagawe, Ifugao, and then take a van to Mayoyao.
We tried taking the van to Mayoyao for the first time. It leaves Lagawe Terminal in the afternoon (12NN, 1PM, 2PM & 5PM). It drives through Lagawe-Banaue Road (24.1 KM) and then turns right to Banaue-Alfonso Lista Road (39.7 KM) to reach Mayoyao Poblacion in 3 Hours. It is a scenic ride passing through the mountains and rice terraces of Ifugao. Van Fare is 250 pesos per passenger.
