Jack Armstrong (1922 - 2016) served in the British Merchant Navy during the Second World War. He participated in Atlantic convoys from 1940 until 1943, after which he served aboard vessels that were transporting supplies across the Indian Ocean.
This is the full, unedited interview that I recorded with him on 17th November 2011. It includes how he became part of the Merchant Navy, his first voyage from Britain, the intensification of U-Boat attacks, conditions aboard his ships and his service in the Indian Ocean.
This was my first ever interview with a veteran of the Second World War and I would like to thank Lancaster Military Heritage Group for making this interview possible.
