The idea for a new central station arose as the previous one, inaugurated in 1864, could no longer handle the growing volume of rail traffic.
Architect Ulisse Stacchini won a competition in 1912 to design the new station.
Milano Centrale was officially opened in 1931.
Platform 21 became a site of immense tragedy, from which trains departed for concentration camps.
The station is a major transportation hub, handling national and international routes, metro lines, and city bus services. The Platform 21 area has been transformed into the Milan Shoah Memorial to honor the victims and reflect on this painful history. ❤️
