EULOGY
BIRTH
The late Benedict Muinde Mavungo was born in the year 1958 at Nthungi village, Kivutini
Sub-location, Mutituni location, Machakos county. He was the fourth born of late Mavungo Kisaila and late Mary Salome Wanza. He was brother to the late Esther Kasalu, late Joseph Kioko, Munyiva John, late Charles Sila and Francisca Munini. Step brother to late Kaleli, Mutisya and Katunge. Uncle to late Alphonce, Mutuku, Syowai, late Mbithe, Munyiva, Mukonyo, Mutio, Mavungo, Mutave, Makau, late Kavithi, Mutunga, late Muinde, Kaluki, Kyele, Nduku, Mutua, Munyao among others.
EDUCATION
When he attained the age of going to school he joined Kasaini primary school and later Kiteini primary school then proceeded to Kabaa high school upto to form 2.
WORK
He started his career with Fr. Osuluvani as his interpreter then Diocesan development services as a driver to the late Bishop Urbanus Kioko and Pope Paul Junior Seminary. In 1993 he joined K.P.C as a driver where he worked in various places like Mombasa, Sultan Hamud and Nairobi until his retirement in the year 2018. He has been a farmer till his demise.
MARRIAGE
He married his beloved wife Agnes Mwikali Muinde in 1984 and solemnized their marriage in 1985 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Mutituni. They were blessed with five children; Four sons and one daughter namely; Faustin Muinde, Magdalene Wanza, Urbanus Nzioka, Vincent Mavungo and Daniel Mutiso. Father in law to Joan Mbinya Nzioka. Grandfather to Sharon Ndunge, Victoria Zawadi, Benedict Muinde, Jude Baraka and Mavungo Junior.
CHRISTIAN LIFE
His spiritual life started while he was a young boy at Kasaini primary school where he was baptized and confirmed. He has been a devoted and defender of catholic faith. He was a member of St. Monica Small Christian Community and St. Stephen Catholic Church.
LEADERSHIP
The late Benedict was one time the vice chairman of St. Joseph catholic church and chairman of Kiteini primary school 2000-2008. After the opening of a new station that is St. Stephen Catholic Church Nduu, he initiated the construction of the new church with a lot of passion until completion.
He was a strong defender of the Catholic faith and was ready to assist the church where possible to grow in faith. His exemplary faith made it possible to be granted Apostolic blessing by Emeritus Pope John II, whom he had an opportunity to greet in 1985, during his Papal visit to Kenya.
In 2018, due to his dedication to the church, he was appointed as sponsor of all C.M.A faithful receiving confirmation sacrament at Mutituni Parish Centre. He over saw the expansion of the Catholic Faithfuls of St. Stephen Nduu from a small church to its present status. Benedict was a blessing to many through his service and dedication to the church. Truly a leader is fallen in Christ, but his deeds will linger for ever.
SICKNESS/DEMISE
He has been enjoying a good health until 12/05/2023 when he developed breathing complication, he was rushed to Bishop Kioko Hospital where he was treated and discharged. On 18th May 2023 he was taken back and was diagnosed with severe Pneumonia. On 20th May 2023 he was the best man in a wedding where he collapsed while at church and was rushed to Bishop Kioko Hospital, treated and put on oxygen and passed on at around 7.50pm the same day. He passed on at the age of 65 years.
He has left behind his wife, four sons, one daughter and five grandchildren.
