We continue re-assembly of the rear roller assembly in this video, the third of four videos in this mini-series.

Before we start, spare a thought for the counterweight.

The 14" and 20" Scott Bonnar 45 machines have a counterweight mounted in one of the rear roller halves. The 17" Scotties and the Rover machines have no counterweight (the Rovers have no holes for mounting a counterweight).

The roller half with the counterweight is installed under the engine (opposite the chain side).

We find it easiest to begin with the roller half opposite the chain side. Install the three pawls into the pawl holder with the dimple facing inwards to the centre of the shaft. Then feed the shaft through the first roller half and secure it with a shaft collar.

The retaining bolt passing through the shaft collar should be aligned to the flat section of the shaft. Tighten it firmly and then tighten the locknut against the collar.

Stand the assembly on end to install the second set of pawls and the next roller half before securing with the second shaft collar.

Ensure the retaining bolt in each collar is well backed off before attempting to mount it on the shaft.

Note some 20" machines have a three-section rear roller.
