This is an introduction to the National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count (CBC). I cover a brief history, the method, and where CBCs are run in southwestern Idaho. I demonstrate how you can retrieve count data, and look at recent population trends for a variety of species occurring in Idaho. Population trend is used to help identify those bird species most in need of conservation action. CBCs are the perfect place for beginning and casual birders to have fun with experts.
