You were going to free her tonight. You were determined to at least try. You wouldn't leave your friend there, chained and alone. You couldn't.
Your heart pounds as you kneel beside the pedestal, fingers trembling as you pull out the lockpick you swore you’d never need. The angel watches you closely now, fear and hope warring in her gaze. She whispers warnings, about the chains, about the priests, about what might happen if you succeed.
But you can’t walk away.
Not when her wings twitch for the first time.
Not when she dares to hope.
