Once called the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean, Montserrat was a tropical paradise—until the Soufrière Hills volcano violently erupted in 1995. In a matter of days, the vibrant capital city of Plymouth was buried under tons of volcanic ash, transforming this peaceful island into one of the most dangerous places in the Caribbean.

In this first episode of my three-part documentary, I’m exploring an abandoned ghost city on the most dangerous island—granted rare access into the exclusion zone where time has stood still. From ghostly remnants of a once-thriving town to hotels frozen in ash, this is Montserrat like you’ve never seen it before.
