Keswick
Keswick is a market town and civil parish in the Cumberland unitary authority area of Cumbria, England. It lies within the Lake District National Park, just north of Derwentwater and 4 miles (6 km) from Bassenthwaite Lake. The parish had a population of 4,658 at the 2021 census. There is evidence of prehistoric occupation of the area, but the first recorded mention of the town dates from the 13th century, when Edward I of England granted a charter for Keswick's market, which has maintained a continuous 700-year existence. The town was an important mining area, and from the 18th century has been known as a holiday centre; tourism has been its principal industry for more than 150 years. Its features include the Moot Hall; a modern theatre, the Theatre by the Lake; one of Britain's oldest surviving cinemas, the Alhambra; and the Keswick Museum and Art Gallery in the town's largest open space, Fitz Park
Derwentwater
Derwentwater, or Derwent Water, is a lake in the Lake District in North West England, immediately south of Keswick. It is in the unitary authority of Cumberland within the ceremonial county of Cumbria. It is the third largest lake by area, after Windermere and Ullswater. It has a length of 4.6 kilometres (2.9 mi), a maximum width of 1.91 kilometres (1.19 mi), and an area of 5.4 square kilometres (2.1 sq mi). Its primary inflow and outflow is the River Derwent, which also flows through Bassenthwaite Lake before reaching the Irish Sea at Workington. There are several islands within the lake, one of which is inhabited.
Wainwright Bagging
A Wainwright refers to one of 214 fells in the Lake District National Park named after Alfred Wainwright. The term Wainwright bagging refers to having climbed to the summit of a particular Wainwright. The objective for some people is to bag as many Wainwrights as they can or all 214 of them and hence the term Wainwright bagging.
