In this video, I’m sharing an easy step-by-step recipe that gives you the exact hotel / dhaba taste at home, using simple ingredients and 2 secret flavour boosters that make all the difference. Perfect for everyday meals and special lunches!
🧾 Ingredients
For boiling the dal:
Masoor Dal – 1 cup (washed)
Water – 2 glasses
Salt – ½ tsp
Turmeric – ½ tsp
Ginger – 1 inch (finely crushed)
For masala & tadka:
Oil – 1 tbsp
Ghee – ½ tbsp
Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
Asafoetida (Hing) – 2 pinches
Onion – 1 medium (chopped)
Whole Dried Red Chillies – 3
Garlic – 8–10 cloves (crushed)
Green Chillies – 2 (crushed)
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
For extra flavour:
Green Chillies – 2 (thin round slices)
Chilli Flakes – ¼ tsp
Kasoori Methi – 1 tsp ⭐
Garam Masala – ¼ tsp ⭐
For restaurant-style red oil:
Oil – ½ tbsp
Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder – ½ tsp
👩🍳 Method
Boil masoor dal with water, salt, and turmeric until completely soft.
Add crushed ginger to the cooked dal and mix well.
Heat oil and ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and hing.
Add chopped onion and whole red chillies; cook till light golden.
Add crushed garlic and green chillies; cook till aromatic and lightly brown.
Add red chilli powder, then mix in the boiled dal.
Add sliced green chillies, chilli flakes, kasoori methi, and garam masala. Mix well.
For red oil tadka, heat oil, turn off the flame, add Kashmiri chilli powder, and pour over dal.
