In today's episode on Tales Extra,we have a guest named Patience Wairimu.She was born in Kiambu but when she was still a small child,her family moved to Naivasha.Due to financial difficulties,she was only able to reach class 6.
Life in Kiambu had been good,but after moving to Naivasha,everything changed.Her grandmother could no longer afford to take care of them,and one day,they ran away from home ending up on the streets.
Patience and her siblings lived as street children for seven years until one day,she met a man who promised to take care of them.They later became lovers and she got pregnant with their first child.He started being violent and she decided to move out.
At some point,she found work ,selling tea to quarry workers,but the the job came with many challanges.When some customers refused to pay,the owner deducted the losses from her daily wage of 100 shillings.
During he work,she met a woman who promised to employ her as a househelp.She agreed,hoping for a better opportunity.One day,her boss asked her whether she would be interested in the kind of work she did,since she was no longer a child.She assured Patience that one day,she would take he to her workplace.
Patience followed her,only to be asked to change into another set of clothes.She was told that when clients arrived,the price would start from 200 shillings.When she refused,her boss threatened her,forcing her to comply for the sake of her child.Listen to Patience's story about her life on the streets and how she eventually found the strength to leave.
