Ambition is a private case of extrinsic motivation.
Ambition is the counterfactual
and compulsively
motivating
conviction that
happiness is conditioned
on the attainment of socially recognized accomplishments
and on increasing one’s possessions.
It is not the same as motivation, which is
internal,
not compulsive, and
has no external reference point.
