Off-Road Cycling Through Gozo’s Blooming Landscapes | Stunning Coastal Ride in Malta

Join me on an incredible off-road cycling adventure along the west and north-western coast of Gozo, Malta, where spring has transformed the island into a sea of colours! 🌿🌸🚴‍♂️ This ride showcases the island’s breathtaking landscapes, from lush green valleys and wildflower-covered trails to rugged limestone cliffs and rocky coastal paths.

We start off cycling the clay trails of Tal-Wardija, home to a Punic-Roman sanctuary, before descending the challenging rocky trails of Gozo’s west coast. Along the way, we enjoy spectacular views of the Mediterranean and pass Fungus Rock, also known as Il-Ġebla tal-Ġeneral (The General’s Rock).

Continuing along the coastal path of Ta’ Ħarrux, we take on a thrilling downhill section before arriving at Dwejra, where we pass the historic Dwejra Tower (1652). We then cycle through fields of bright yellow crown daisies (Lelluxa) in the limits of Għarb, before entering the overgrown and slippery Wied ir-Raħeb valley—one of Gozo’s wildest hidden spots.

As we make our way along Gozo’s north-western coast, the landscape changes with patches of red and pink wildflowers, and rugged limestone terrain. The limestone signals we’re nearing the unique Mushroom Rock, a fascinating natural formation resembling a mushroom with a stem and cap.

The ride continues with a thrilling descent through Wied l-Għasri, before passing the saltpans of is-Salini in the limits of Marsalforn. We end this unforgettable off-road adventure by cycling through the Marsalforn Valley, completing an epic ride filled with nature, history, and stunning coastal views.
