Join us in the underwater world of Cockburn Sound, Western Australia, where volunteers are making a difference for fish, habitats, and the planet! The WA Seeds for Snapper Project, Australia’s largest community-driven seagrass restoration initiative, is working to bring life back to the ocean floor.
In this video, you'll see passionate volunteers collecting, sorting, and dispersing Posidonia seagrass seeds, a vital step in rebuilding the underwater meadows that support iconic species like snapper, blue swimmer crabs, and squid. With over 80% of Cockburn Sound's seagrass lost to historic pollution, this project is crucial for restoring habitat, improving water quality, and tackling climate change through carbon storage.
Since starting 7 years ago, this project has grown into a movement that brings together ocean lovers from all walks of life. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or just starting out, you can get involved in creating more fish for future generations.
