Dr. Nicole Cozean of PelvicSanity physical therapy in Orange County, CA explains coccydynia, which literally means 'pain in the coccyx.' More commonly known as tailbone pain, coccydynia can develop from either an acute injury or a more chronic onset.
Every muscle in the pelvic floor attaches to the tailbone, so often the muscles of the pelvic floor are the root cause of the pain experienced in the tailbone. This can also manifest in urinary symptoms, pain with intercourse, and constipation.
Coccydynia can often be treated conservatively, without injections or surgery. We've worked with patients from all over the world with pelvic pain and coccydynia - you absolutely can get better and find lasting relief!
