This is a recording of the introductory talk from Brad Rovin, MD (United States), Co-Chair of the KDIGO Controversies Conference: Therapies Targeting B Cells in Immune-Mediated Kidney Diseases, held June 26–29, 2025, in Panama City, Panama.
The conference convened leading international experts in nephrology, immunology, and rheumatology to examine the growing role of B cell–directed therapies in managing diseases such as IgA nephropathy, lupus nephritis, membranous nephropathy, and ANCA-associated vasculitis. Discussions focused on current and emerging therapeutic approaches—including anti-CD20 and anti-BAFF agents, plasma cell–targeted therapies, CAR T cells, and bispecific T cell engagers—as well as the challenges of treatment timing, safety, and individualized care.
Co-chaired by Jürgen Floege, MD (Germany), and Brad Rovin, MD (United States), the conference explored how precision immunotherapy is reshaping clinical practice and research in kidney disease.
