On August 10, 2025 the Berkshire Scenic Railway, RDC Foundation, Webb Rail, and the Housatonic Railroad coordinated the move of restored New Haven FL9 2058 and the Roger Williams trainset from Canaan, CT back to Lenox, MA. This move was for Canaan Railroad Days that was held on August 9, 2025. 2058 is owned by Webb Rail and is the first former NH FL9 to be renumbered to its historic as built number. Previously it ran for the Connecticut Department of Transportation as their 2024 but Webb Rail got the unit in operation again then repainted it. This was the first time since 1971 that a FL9 ran this section of the Berkshire Line and I hope it happens again more regularly in the future. Behind 2058 was the Roger Williams trainset, an experimental Budd trainset built for the New Haven in 1957. It was on display last year and was pulled down by a couple leased freight engines run by the Housatonic Railroad. For this return trip one of the Housatonic's new GP15's pulled the train north. A few moves around Lenox were made by the FL9 under its own power.
This video follows the move from Canaan, CT through Sheffield, Housatonic, and Lee, MA to Lenox, MA.
Note the condition of the trackage as MassDOT and Housatonic have put some serious money into the line over the past few years.
