INGREDIENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS 1 1/2 QT.CASSEROLE 350 DEG. 45-50 MIN.
PUDDING
2 CUPS WHOLE MILK OR HALF AND HALF
1/4 CUP BUTTER
2/3 CUP SUGAR(BROWN OR WHITE-YOUR CHOICE) IF YOU MAKE THE SAUCE YOU CAN REDUCE THE SUGAR TO 1/3 BUT I FORGOT TO REDUCE IT AND IT WAS FINE.
3 EGGS
2 TSPS. CINNAMON
1/4 TSP. NUTMEG
1 TSP.VANILLA
3 CUPS WHITE BREAD TORN OR OR CUBED. I DON'T REMOVE THE CRUSTS AS MY HUSBAND LIKES IT THAT WAY
1/2 CUP RAISINS ,IF DESIRED)
IN MEDIUM SAUCEPAN, OVER MEDIUM HEAT,HEAT MILK OR HALF AND HALF JUST UNTIL SCALDED(LITTLE BUBBLES WILL FORM AROUND EDGES AND A SLIGHT FILM WILL FORM.)COMBINE BUTTER AND MILK,STIRRING UNTIL BUTTER MELTS. COOL TO LUKEWARM.
COMBINE SUGAR,EGGS,CINNAMON,NUTMEG AND VANILLA IN MIXING BOWL.BEAT WITH ELECTRIC MIXER AT MEDIUM SPEED FOR ONE MINUTE.SLOWLY ADD MILK MIXTURE.
PLACE BREAD IN LIGHTLY GREASED 1 1/2 QT. CASSEROLE.SPRINKLE WITH RAISINS.POUR MILK MIXTURE ON TOP AND PRESS BREAD TO BE FULLY MOISTENED.
BAKE AT 350 FOR 45-50 MINUTES OR UNTIL SET.SERVE WARM.
SAUCE
1 CUP WHOLE MILK
2 TBS. BUTTER
1/3 CUP WHITE SUGAR
1 TSP. VANILLA
1 TBSP. FLOUR
DASH OF SALT
MIX EVERYTHING TOGETHER AND BRING TO BOIL FOR 3-4 MINUTES,STIRRING CONSTANTLY.
(WHEN IT STARTS TO BOIL IT REALLY BOILS UP QUICKLY).SET ASIDE FOR 5 MINUTES AND POUR OVER BREAD PUDDING SERVINGS.
IF I MAKE THIS FOR JUST MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF ,I USE 2/3 OF THE RECIPE AND USE A 1 QT. DISH
