In this guided meditation, Dr. Kate Truitt explains that this is a guided exercise for changing our relationship with anticipatory anxiety. When our brain doesn’t know what’s happening next, it loves to create stories in order to best understand what will happen to be prepared. She welcomes us to start havening touch and gentle guided breathwork.
She then asks us to imagine a particularly troublesome or inconvenient experience that disrupts what we expected. As we notice this new experience, we invite our attention inwards. When our brain is expecting a new narrative, it can go in oneo of two ways: it can cause worry or it can result in curiosity. How can we show curiosity in this event? With intentional intention we can change the narrative.
What if’s cause new changes for our amygdala and harnessing our brains natural desire. What feeling state would we prefer to have when we feel anxious or uncertain? We go back and think of this experience. What feeling state would change our anxiety and create space? Getting curious can help.
What if I could find a way to manage this experience differently? What if I could create a new fun experience? What if it works for us? How can we change the worry?
