Day 2 - Morning session: Second Meeting of the African Food Regulatory Authorities Forum (AFRAF)

This high-level gathering is bringing together heads of African food safety authorities, Regional Economic Communities, Codex Contact Points, and global partners — all aligning around one agenda: accelerating the continent’s shift toward stronger, more harmonized food regulatory systems.
Born from the 2023 Cairo Declaration, AFRAF continues to operate as a strategic platform for African food regulators to exchange experience, strengthen capacity, and drive alignment with the Food Safety Strategy for Africa (FSSA 2022–2036) and the AfCFTA framework.
Across the two-day program, AFRAF members are engaging to:
• Review progress since the Cairo Declaration and advance AFSA’s operationalization
• Deepen collaboration on risk analysis, food monitoring, and data generation
• Drive modernization of food regulatory systems and support responsible food innovation
• Promote harmonized pesticide MRLs, coordinated monitoring systems, and state-of-the-art regulatory science tools
• Engage with African regulators, regional partners, and global organizations including FAO, WHO, IUFoST, and GFoRSS
