I played the Wavestation without any additional effects or eq. All you hear is coming straight out of the Korg WS.
The Korg Wavestation is a great synthesizer for fantastic digital pad sounds. It came out 1990 and was actually developed by people from Sequential Circuits for Korg. The Wavestation reminds me of the M1 (similar hardware and similar basic sound), I think the Wavestation is also perfect for people who love the M1 as a synth. The Wavestation delivers similar synth sounds - but in better quality. It also has the same filter without resonance. Despite of this, it can sound amazing.
It's definitely not a "Music Workstation".
Like on the Roland D-50, the Vector stick is very useful to vary the sounds a little bit. That's important, because editing sounds on the WS is not easy. All in all, a fantastic inspiring instrument. If I must choose between WS and D-50, I would vote for the WS.
Many people played the Wavestation: Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Michael Cretu (Enigma), Peter Oxendale, Jan Hammer, Tony Banks (Genesis)...
In the video I show you some of my favourite sounds. Enjoy!
