EAST MARKHAM: Bassetlaw Parish #30 of 66

Today we are back in Bassetlaw, and we are rifling our way through the South Eastern corner of the district, today taking on one of the largest villages in that area, and one which ever since the East Drayton video went up, a lot of people have wanted me to cover. Your wish is granted folks, here is your lovely village, and it truly is that too!

There's a notice on one of the four parish noticeboards in this place that states that the residents of this village all look out for once another in what is a tight knit community group. This couldn't sum up this village in any better a way. If you love here you certainly have that sense of community, and that's just evident from the village Facebook groups that I'm in, and why wouldn't the residents look out for one another when there is a beautiful village to maintain and be proud of? This village has won awards in the past for the Best Kept Village in Nottinghamshire!

The East Coast Main Line passes through the Eastern edge of the village. It's got a lovely church and a hall which on their own are stunning buildings, but they are together in the same area, and not too far away is the playing field, which allows no dogs. There's an amazing 18th century pinfold which is the best preserved I've ever seen, not to mention lots of preserved old buildings like the old chapel on Low Street and the Methodist Church on the High Street. Even the school makes it onto the village sign because of it's fabulous Victorian architecture.

Out to the West of the parish you'll find the A1 and the A1-A57 junction which was redesigned in 2008, but managed to keep all of it's service areas. The quadrants as they are known are each very dissimilar to each other and they all have their own history. The parish though, only covers the Southbound services in the North East quadrant (if that makes sense), because the rest of them lie within the neighbouring parish of West Drayton.
