Lentil Soup 3 delicious ways; use a ham bone, a pork butt, or go vegetarian!

This lentil soup is as delicious as it is nutritious. You can make it with a leftover ham bone for extra yumminess, or add a pork butt to make it even heartier. It's also delicious if you choose the no meat, vegetarian style. Either way, it makes a great, healthy, hearty meal all by itself. Freeze any extra for easy meals later. This recipe has been in my family over 80 years. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have for all these years. We called it, "the cure for what ails ya."
(This soup is very forgiving. If you don't have the exact amount of vegetables, use what you have, it will still be good!)
Recipe(s):
1. With a ham bone (recipe shown in video):
1 16 oz. package lentils
1 ham bone with meat
2 medium to large onions, chopped (approx. 3 cups)
approximately 7 carrots, chopped (approx. 3 cups)
approximately 7 celery stalks with leaves on, chopped (approx. 3 cups)
1 clove garlic, slivered
1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
1 teaspoon Lawry's Season Salt
13 cups (3 quarts + 1 cup) water
2. With the pork butt only:
1 16 oz. package lentils
1 pork butt
2 medium to large onions, chopped
approximately 5 carrots, chopped
approximately 5 celery stalks with leaves on, chopped
1 clove garlic, slivered
1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
1 teaspoon Lawry's Season Salt
12 cups (3 quarts) water
3. Vegetarian:
1 16 oz. package lentils
2 medium to large onions, chopped
approximately 5 carrots, chopped
approximately 5 celery stalks with leaves on, chopped
1 clove garlic, slivered
1 1/2 teaspoons fresh ground pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons Lawry's Season Salt
12 cups (3 quarts) water
Directions:
If you're using a ham bone, place the bone in a large stock pot and add the water. Heat on medium.
Wash and rinse (do not peel) the carrots and celery. Chop the carrots and then celery (with any greens), and add to the pot.
Chop the onions and add to the pot.
Rinse the lentils well, and pick through them to remove any black or shriveled lentils. Add to pot.
Add season salt and pepper.
Cover and bring to a boil. Once boiling turn down to simmer for about 3 hours.
