Do you draw blood samples without wearing gloves? Do you tear the tip of your glove's index finger off to palpate the vein? If so, you're putting yourself at risk of a bloodborne exposure. They won't prevent an accidental needlestick, but they provide surprising protection against disease transmission if you're wearing them while you sustain one.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like gloves must never be modified. What you don't know about your patient's blood can kill you. A little-known fact revealed in this video will likely make you think twice before drawing blood without gloves again.
