Pricing Strategy for Mom Entrepreneurs: 3 Lessons That Cost Me $1K

I paid a client $1000 to work for them. My hourly rate was NEGATIVE $40. Here's what happened when I undercharged out of desperation—and the pricing formula that saved my business.

💔 THE REAL COST OF UNDERCHARGING:
When you have bills to pay and babies to feed, desperation makes you say yes to anything. I charged $300 for work that took 8 hours, then paid my client's $250/month software fees for 4 months because they "were processing payment." Yes, Ibwas stupid, I know.

The result? I was literally PAYING to work for someone else while my kids watched TV and I stressed about bills.

💰 THE ANTI-DESPERATION PRICING FORMULA:

*STEP 1: Calculate Your True Minimum*
Monthly expenses + 20% buffer ÷ realistic billable hours = your minimum rate
(With 2 kids under 2, I have 40-60 billable hours/month, NOT 160)

*STEP 2: Add Value Multipliers*
Minimum × 1.5 = covers slow months
Minimum × 2 = allows for growth
Minimum × 3 = premium rate

*STEP 3: Package the Value*
Don't say "$50/hour" → Say "$500 for complete AI chatbot setup"
Clients pay for OUTCOMES, not time.

🚫 THE HARD BOUNDARY RULE:
If a client can't afford your minimum rate, they're NOT your client right now.

My new boundaries:
✅ 50% upfront or I don't start
✅ 2 rounds of revisions, then we charge
✅ Payment 7+ days late = services pause

Result? Better clients showed up. Clients who valued my work and paid on time.
