How to Take Photometry Data | Astrophysics Research Basics 2

Hiya! I'm Kylie, and I'm a current Fulbright Fellow who graduated from MIT and an aspiring Astrophysicist. Thanks for checking out my channel! This is episode 2 of my Astrophysics Research Basics series, where I teach you the stuff about Astrophysics research that no one really tells you.

Over the years I've realized that there is a lot of stuff in academia that no one really explains. You either have to be wise enough to seek it out, or just happen upon it accidentally. That can really be unfair to a lot of people, especially those who are from less privileged backgrounds. I hope this series will help share information to give everyone a more even playing field. This episode goes over the basics of taking photometry data. Believe it or not, you cannot just take simple data images and do science with them. You need a variety of different frames to properly calibrate that data. I go over those different frames and also how to use them to calibrate your data. I hope this video will help any aspiring Astrophysicists who want to take photometry data for themselves! In high school, I was one of those people, and I had to learn all of this by reading obscure articles on the internet. It would've helped me a lot to have something like this, so I hope this will help you.
