This was supposed to be a "quick tip" video- y'know, one of those one's I just take out my phone and shoot everything in one take and say my peace in a few minutes with no editing necessary. Yeah.... That didn't work. I mean, it was on my phone...
So anyway, I had to remove the front fender on my 2014 Dodge Charger. Of course it turned out to be more involved than I wanted, and I ended up having to do a lot of research (and so did my friend, Josh- Thank you Josh!) just to confirm that what I was doing was actually the right method, so I shot this video to share what I learned.
In order to remove the fender on a 2014 Dodge Charger (probably any Charger from 2011-2014) There are obvious bolts in the engine compartment, and of course you need to remove the splash guard inside the fender well. Also you need to detached the bumper cover from the fender and take out a couple bolts there, but there are still a few harder to find bolts that you need to remove.
If you open the door and look in the gap between the door and the back of the fender, right at the top, there's another bolt. These are all 10mm, by the way. Now if you look inside the wheel well, towards the back, there's a piece of insulating foam that you can remove. behind that about half way up you will see what looks like a hex nut on a stud. You'll need a 10mm deep well socket and a long extension to reach it, but you will need to loosen that nut. You don't have to take it out completely; just loosen it enough that the metal support attached to the inside of the fender can slide out.
The last 2 bolts are hidden under the rocker panel. Removing the rocker panel, however, kind of sucks. There are two body panel retainers on each end, but all along the underside are these rectangular clips tucked up inside deep recesses in the underside of the rocker panel. All you will see are flat featureless rectangles. There no slots or edges designed to use a tool on. Nonetheless, you are supposed to rotate these clips 90 degrees to disengage them from the underside of the car.
If you try to do that and find that it doesn't work at all, or is so tremendously difficult that you just decide to break the clips instead, don't feel bad. That's what I did, and it seems every person on the forums I read did as well. These clips are annoyingly designed at best. Once you deal with the sucky clips, you can remove the rocker panel and finally have access to the bottom bolts on the fender.
