Join me on this solo wildcamp, I set off from a lay-by just outside Grasmere, one of the most beautiful parts of the Lake District. With Helm crag and Gibson knott in view I start the 2 mile walk to summit Steel fell. The weather was cool, and the tops of the surrounding mountains covered in thick fog. I soon find myself off the roads and paths, and on the gently sloped fellside, and the views down the valley start to open up nicely, although visibility is jaded by the thinner lower lying fog. The path steepens as I near the first crag, which gets my blood pumping, and I quickly find myself entering the thick fog layer towards the summit, my beard and clothes are now wet to the touch, not from sweat, but from the fog. I hit the summit, another Wainwright ticked off the list, visibility is very poor now, however I can see loads of spaces for tents up here, I'll definitely be returning in better weather for sure. I spend 10 minutes resting and taking on some water at the summit, but there are no views, and I'm getting wetter from the fog, so decide to drop down a little lower to a pitch I spotted on the way up, although still foggy, I have great (ish) views down the valley towards Grasmere and Helm Crag. Once the tent is up I enjoyed my evening meal, and a good night's sleep, before waking, eating a hearty breakfast and heading home. This is also my first video using the new action camera, the DJI action 5 pro. I hope you all enjoy, atb Paul 🙏🏕🏕🏕😁 #wintercamping #hiking #camping #mountains #tent
