U.C. Berkeley's Dr. Per Peterson, James Kendrick & Grant Buster tour Thorium Energy Alliance members through laboratory work advancing the PB-FHR, a molten salt cooled pebble bed reactor.
While PB-FHR still uses solid pebble fuel, this is an excellent step forward towards liquid fuel reactors. Testing how well the PB-FHR can handle defective fuel pellets will require small amounts of uranium &/or fission products be dissolved into the molten salt. This presents similar challenges faced by liquid fuel MSR but on a smaller and more exploratory scale.
X-PREX is the study of pebble movement, as explained by Grant Buster.
CIET validates computer models for passive, natural circulation heat removal from FHRs under both steady-state and transient conditions. James Kendrick is our guide for that.

Thank you very much to U.C. Berkeley for granting the tour, and Thorium Energy Alliance for requesting & coordinating it.
Many attendees were operating video cameras. All guides were wearing microphones. This footage was captured for reuse in "Thorium Remix 2015". https://www.patreon.com/thorium?ty=c
