This is from the Thumb Lake trip, Wind River Mountains, Wyoming, August 2017.
We have a fruitless but pleasant day fishing at the little Deer Lake between Island Lake and Thumb Lake. I show the one-rope bear hang. Wrap a line around a rock, (don't tie it to the rock), throw it over a high branch; on a carabiner with a cinch knot and pull it up to the branch and tie off that anchor end. Pull the working end through the carabiner, loop around the second carabiner that holds the food, and then you can pull it all up. I can easily pull up my 40 pounds of stuff this way.
I see tracks from when the moose had circled around us as I was setting up camp yesterday. She probably came within 25 feet of the camp, without me knowing, before heading on into the woods.
I never have much luck fishing in that lake. There are nice fish in there.
Tomorrow we will head up to Thumb Lake, just to the west up over that ridge. If you went over the north ridge, you'd see Leg Lake.
The music is Shigeru Umegaya's "Farewell #2."
