Troubleshooting my Sniper EFI on a GM small block 350 in my 1974 CJ5. I just returned from a trip to Moab, UT where I was let down by my new install. After about 30-40 minutes of crawling on the trail my air/fuel ratio spikes and the Engine shuts down. This generally happens when the engine hits 195 degrees or higher. It won’t restart unless I allow the engine to cool down. The system works great on the highway, but is problematic on the trail.
It was initially suggested to me that my fuel delivery line could be pre-heating the fuel and
Causing vaporization. As you can see, I have heavily insulated the delivery line and even rerouted it away from cooling system lines the best I can.
In an effort to get through my last day at Moab I installed a 180 degree thermostat. By running cooler, the engine did not stall, though It did run a bit richer. I did experience a high idle at times coupled with a higher air/fuel ration that I could not control without shutting down and restarting the engine.
