The Brienz Rothorn Railway (BRB) is a historic tourist rack railway in Switzerland that climbs from the town of Brienz, located at the eastern end of Lake Brienz, up to the summit of the Brienzer Rothorn mountain. Here are some key details:

The railway is 7.6 kilometers (4.7 miles) long and uses an 800 mm gauge, operated with the Abt double lamella rack system.
It is one of the few Swiss mountain railways that is not electrified; nearly all trains run with steam locomotives, making it a unique attraction.
The line reaches a height of 2,244 meters (7,362 feet) above sea level, making it the fourth-highest railway in Switzerland.
The railway was opened on June 17, 1892. Its designers included engineer Alexander Lindner and contractor Theo Bertschinger, with Roman Abt responsible for the rack system.
The route starts in Brienz at an altitude of 566 meters (1,857 feet), passing through passing loops at Geldried (1,019 m), Planalp (1,341 m, the only stop on the line), and Oberstafel (1,819 m). The upper terminus is Rothorn Kulm at 2,244 meters.
The line has a maximum gradient of 25% (1 in 4) and includes five tunnels.
Its steam locomotives are of Class H2/3 with a wheel arrangement of 0-4-2, and some modern locomotives are oil-fired steam engines.
The railway experienced financial difficulties early on, was closed during World War I, and reopened in 1931.
The trip from the lake to the summit takes about an hour, offering spectacular panoramic views of the Bernese Alps, Lake Brienz, and the surrounding area.
The steam railway operates daily from June to October and offers special thematic rides like the "Steam Sausage Train."
Besides the railway, an aerial cableway from the UNESCO biosphere Entlebuch (Sörenberg) also goes to the Rothorn summit, operating year-round.
At the top, there are restaurants and lodging for visitors to enjoy the mountain environment.
