This is video #768 of my video posting project. I have been working on this project since November 2023--learning and posting a video of NEW piano music every. single. day!
Today's piece is "Christmas" (Baby Please Come Home) by Phil Spector, Ellie Greenwich & Jeff Barry. This arrangement can be found in Hal Leonard's collection of Jazz Piano Solos in the volume called "Christmas Classics". This collection of jazz arrangements was written by Brent Edstrom.
This is a VERY fun, swing arrangement of a Christmas classic. This is one that I didn't think I knew until I googled it. I never realized that it was written back in 1963, released by an artist named Darlene Love. This was one of those songs that when it first came out, didn't really find commercial success, but then got covered by a number of artists and has turned into a Christmas standard. (Covered by U2, Mariah Carey, Cher, Hanson, Death Cab for Cutie, and Michael Bublé).
Fun little bit of trivia: Cher performed background vocals on the 1963 version by Darlene Love. She returned the favour and duetted (is that a word?) with Cher on Cher's 2023 version of the song! Full circle!
