A technical team from the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) led by Dr. Ronen Francis- Executive Director, visited Petite Martinique on September 3, 2025, as part of an urgent mission to assess the extent of land degradation, particularly in areas worsened by the recent passage of Hurricane Beryl.
This mission was supported by Project Managers from two of PISLM’s flagship initiatives: the Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) Project, implemented in Carriacou, and the SOILCARE Phase One Project, implemented across eight Caribbean Small Island Developing States (CSIDS), including Grenada. Representing these projects were Mr. Bernard McIntosh and Mr. Trevor Thompson, respectively.
The team also received support from Mr. Leon Williams, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Operator from the Ministry of Agriculture, Grenada, and Mr. Dwight Logan, a local stakeholder from Petite Martinique.
Based on the assessment of the areas visited in Madam Pierre, North Point, and nearby locations, Executive Director Dr. Ronen Francis, a Soil Scientist, confirmed that the degradation already present in the landscape had been further intensified by the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
