This powerful, and familiar, passage from Isaiah, the 8th century Hebrew prophet, depicts what is often called the “peaceable kingdom”, a world where even predators and prey can lie down with one another in peace. The lion with the lamb . . . etc. while this is an attractive and mesmerizing vision, such a world is still imaginary and still seems impossible on a global scale. And yet, what can we do to bring about peace in our own lives, families, and communities?
Community conversation question: What is the difference between peace-keeping and peace-making in your own life? What role does spiritual practice play in the process?
Sermon title: “Strange Nap Mates”
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 11: 1-6
