How to Tackle Atheist Presuppositions in “Debate”

Why have Christian (and, frankly, theists in general) apologists constantly surrendered their first principles to atheists in debates? Since we don’t accept their ultimate paradigm-level presuppositions, why should we be held to their standards? They’re certainly not holding themselves to ours.
Anselm surrendered his starting position. Aquinas did the same. Copelston in his debate with Bertrand Russell follows suit. Why? The atheist is in no better epistemically justified position, and in fact can’t even explain what their first principle is (it “just is”, according to them) so don’t let them off the hook.
This takes time to properly understand, but when you fully conceptualize worldviews, you’ll stop surrendering your paradigm to someone else’s rules. We do not accept their rules, because they do not provide an account of why we should.
It’s as simple as that.
