It is the rainy season here. And the days are cloudy. I hope this season is being kind to you. Soon enough the grey clouds will shed away making way for the gentle warmth of the sunrays to fall on the ground. I have been occupied with certain things for quite some time, because of which I really didn’t find the space to create for this channel, although I really wanted to. I have always loved spending time doing art, writing, storytelling. These are hobbies I often go to. And this channel to me is a platform for the amalgamation of these little things I love doing. I started this channel with the intent of creating a warm and peaceful space that I could come back to and find solace here yet again, as and when I needed it. And maybe, just maybe help you do the same. I have barely been online for the past few weeks. And a lot of days I think we really need to take this break from the information overload.
Today I am here yet again, creating. Somedays, after long hours of work, it can be really difficult to find time and the energy to do what you love. It’s always easier to keep these things for later. But we often forget that amidst all that is seemingly important from the point of view of sustaining ourselves in this flawed and mundane world, it is equally necessary to recharge ourselves, by letting in things that bring us joy. For me one of these things is art. It could be different things to different people. It does take time to find out what aligns with you and what brings you peace. And when you do discover that, there is joy in giving yourself permission to follow what feels nourishing. Sometimes, when the world outside feels heavy with rain and the clouds stay around for days, I find there is a sense of comfort that comes from simply sitting down with my paints and brushes. The act of painting, for me, is like returning to myself. Returning home. When I paint, I feel the world slow down in an inexplicable way. I have never formally learnt painting so I just go with what feels right to me and in the process i find the brushstrokes, they anchor me. There is no need to rush or to meet some expectation. The process itself becomes a grounding ritual, where i can simply flow in the now. Art has always done this for me. It becomes an act of presence, a way to truly see the world, and to be awake. it is, in its own quiet way, therapeutic. The activity can be different for each of us, perhaps for you it’s music, gardening, baking, or simply sitting by a window with a cup of tea and a good book. What matters most is that it brings you back to yourself. As these rainy days linger, I hope you also find small spaces for rest and rejuvenation. Sometimes all it takes is an afternoon with ourselves to remind us that joy isn’t something we need to earn. It can be found here.
