Hi, friends. Here's another original song of mine that I love and am really proud of. This one in particular was a labor of love, as I've been writing the pieces of it for six years (!) and felt a lot of catharsis when I was able to finally put it together. I've been wanting to share it for a long time but was finally pushed to record and post it as part of my application to Berklee online grad school. I really hope you enjoy and thank you for watching.
Lyrics:
I think I forget
What I’ve come to accept
That I’ll always want
But never get
View myself as a collection
Of those who I’ve attempted
To imitate, some might say
I’m an aspiring reflection now
And I’ll try to be accepting
Of whatever I may
Have to say
But the concept of enough
Still remains
A half-empty cup anyway
Thought I was a perfectionist
But I might just be an exceptionist
I’ve gotten obsessed
Trying to make sense
Just to shake it out
like an etch-a-sketch
Whatever I am
I want my hands on the opposite
Don’t know the cause of it
Or what I’m waiting for anymore
Thought it was growth
Now I’m not so sure
It’s no longer fun
When I find myself praising
The statements of others
With the simplest of phrasing
There’s just something different
To the way she says it
Reminds me what I meant
Without trying to impress them now
And I’ll try to be accepting
Of whatever I may
Have to say
But the concept of enough
Still remains
A half-empty cup anyway
Thought I was a perfectionist
But I might just be an exceptionist
I’ve gotten obsessed
Trying to make sense
Just to shake it out
like an etch-a-sketch
Whatever I am
I want my hands on the opposite
Don’t know the cause of it
Or what I’m waiting for anymore
Thought it was growth
Now I’m not so sure
