Matthias vs. Cluny — Lightsabre Duel

I recently learned how to create lightsabre effects with Corel VideoStudio Pro X4. And this was something I've always wanted to do, so here we are.

This video took many hours to make, because I wanted the lightsabre visual effects to be perfect. Because I didn't want the light to drift in the wrong direction or at the wrong speed from the animation, I decided to cut video every 2 or 3 frames, whenever the blades would move, and adjust the lights to still be on top of it. This two-and-three-quarters minute video had to have hundreds of cut video clips altogether. Adding sound effects was relatively easy after that. Still, I'm not completely satisfied visual-wise. I'm not sure if it's possible to change the width of the lights in Corel, so on close-up shots, you'll see that it only runs down a thin line on the blade. Also, inconveniently for me, Cluny uses a pike instead of a sword, so you can still see the spikes in most of the shots.

For those of you who've seen MartinThePaladin's upload of Martin and Badrang's lightsabre duel, yes, this was where I got the inspiration. Although I don't use GIMP, so the visual effects are a bit different. Click the link below to see his video if you haven't yet. It looks pretty cool.

My thoughts on making this video? It's not as difficult, or as fun as making an AMV. This is definitely more time-consuming and repetitive with minimal imagination involved. Still, it's pretty nice to see the outcome be worth the effort I put into it. I hope you guys like it! :)

P.S. I'll probably try making one sometime for Martin vs. Badrang, or even Felldoh vs. Badrang. This video was a test run, for lack of a better term, so I'll see if I can add more creative elements to the other ones.
