Video tutorial on how to knit the Cellular stitch (knit in the flat; Simple Stitch Series; traditional stitch pattern).
Abbreviations: K=knit; P=purl; st=stitch.
Cellular Stitch Pattern (cast on any number of stitches; 2-row repeat):
Row 1: P all stitches.
Row 2: K1, *K in the bar between the sts on right and left needle, then K next stitch and pass the previously knit st (from the bar) over. Repeat from * to the end of the row.
Repeat Rows 1 &2 for the pattern.

Yarn: Lion Brand Mandala Yarn (made this from about 3 oz [100 g] of leftover yarn [variegated], so not sure of the colorway)
Needles: US size 7 (4.5 mm)
Cast on 25 st using the long-trail or German cast-on method. Knit the Cellular Stitch pattern as described above until work measures approximately inches. Bind off loosely, weave in yarn tails, and block work (as described in the video, to remove the diagonal bias and make work appear rectangular). Add a button about 1 inch away from one of the ends (this is optional; if you knit up the piece a little longer, can also just tie it with a loose knot around the neck).
