Ford Transit 1999 Mk5 fan resistor pack repair

** UPDATE OCTOBER 2025 ***
My brand new resistorpack created again a short cut!!! :-((( the metal clips holding down the resistorwire had not made good contact, overheated, and with too much play on the wire the coil moved downwards in its cage creating a shortcut. I lost my patience and bought a PWM-stepless controller from Aliexpress for just a couple of euros this problem is forever solved. Why did Ford not do this? Now I can choose any speed from 0 to max, even standing still with engine off, yay!!!

My 1999 FORD Mk5 Transit fan did not work in 1st and 2nd position. Third was okay and also the switch was fine but could not easily find the resistors. Thanks to a hint on the forum of

I finally found them in the engin bay, between radiator and RH front light. It's there cause when they run hot with dust on them, they become smelly and you do not want that in the airflow from your dashboard, otherwise in the flow of its own fan they would always nicely cool down. BUT
In the engine bay, when the engine is off and you're standing still but with the fans running in second position (big resistor wire) it becomes much too hot without any cooling!
Didn't want to spend any money and you can not solder on these wires, so I reconnected the wires with a domino and there you go. All for free :-)

** UPDATE march 2025 ** should have used more sturdy CERAMIC domino with rvs because after 6 years the plastic domino and tiewraps in the vid were completely molten away and corroded apart until it failed.
