Jeep has officially unveiled the facelifted 2011 Compass.
Borrowing a number of design cues from the Grand Cherokee, the Compass features a new hood, modified fascias, a revised grille, and restyled lighting units. Elsewhere, there's a body-color spoiler, plastic body cladding, and standard 17-inch aluminum wheels (18-inchers are optional).
Inside, the cabin echoes the Patriot with soft-touch door panels, a new center armrest, an updated steering wheel, and improved seats.
Under the hood, two engines will be available. The entry-level 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 158 hp (117 kW) and 141 lb-ft (191 Nm) of torque, which enables it to return 23 mpg city / 29 mpg highway. The optional 2.4-liter churns out 172 hp (128 kW) and 165 lb-ft (223 Nm) of torque. Thanks to dual Variable Valve Timing (VVT), it also returns 23 mpg city / 29 mpg highway. Regardless of what engine is selected, it is connected to a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Front wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is optional. Freedom Drive I is your basic all-wheel drive system, while Freedom Drive II adds low-range gearing, an increased ride height, and Trail Rated badging.
No word on pricing, but the 2011 Compass will start arriving at dealerships later this month.
