From Challenge to Strength: Harm Reduction in Action

The Division of Criminal Justice works hand-in-hand with local agencies, nonprofits, law enforcement, and community leaders to address complex challenges such as public safety, rehabilitation, and prevention. It emphasizes that true progress happens when diverse stakeholders unite under a shared goal.

Strength in Community: Stronger Together captures the essence of the Division of Criminal Justice's (DCJ) mission to foster safer, more equitable communities through collaboration and impactful programs.

In this video, DCJ traveled to Pueblo, Colorado to share the story of its Multidisciplinary Crime Prevention and Crisis Intervention Grant recipient- the Southern Colorado Harm Reduction Association. The Multidisciplinary Crime Prevention and Crisis Intervention Grant is a state-funded program aimed to address the root causes of crime. The grant supports initiatives that combine crime prevention with crisis intervention strategies, particularly in communities facing high levels of crime, substance abuse, and mental health issues.

With the funding provided, the agency opened its doors to a new 14,000-square-foot wellness center. The Southern Colorado Harm Reduction center offers life-changing resources like health care, mental health services, recovery programs, and fresh food—all under one roof. This center isn’t just a facility; it’s a lifeline for individuals facing homelessness, unemployment, and addiction. It’s a testament to what happens when we invest in our people and our communities.
